Clinical Education and Training

Native serves patients requiring critical care or rapid transportation. These patients fall into a number of categories. Some of these categories are:

• Geriatric patients
• Adult patients
• Pediatric patients
• Neonatal patients
• High Risk Obstetrical Patients
• IABP augmented patients

Native Air’s rotor and fixed wing aircraft are designed to operate as mobile critical care units that provide the following specialized transport medical equipment:

• Advanced Airway management support
• End Tidal CO2 Monitoring
• Advanced Hemodynamic and Cardiac Monitoring

Native Air hires only experienced nurses and paramedics to staff our aircraft. Prior to being considered for employment, candidates must demonstrate they meet the following minimum criteria:

Flight Nurse
• RN licensure in the State of Arizona
• Minimum Three years Critical Care Experience in an ICU or CCU
• Current ACLS, PALS/PEPP, NRP
• Successful completion of an Advanced Trauma Curriculum
• Completion of extensive Pre-hire competency evaluation using Human Patient Simulators
• Proficiency exams
• Completion of New Employee Ground School

Flight Paramedic
• Paramedic Certification in the State of Arizona
• Minimum 3 years experience as a paramedic at a “High Volume” Advanced Life Support Transport Service
• Current ACLS, PALS/PEPP, NRP
• Successful completion of an Advanced Trauma Curriculum
• Completion of extensive Pre-hire competency evaluation using Human Patient Simulators
• Proficiency exams
• Completion of New Employee Ground School

Native Air crews must successfully complete a comprehensive training program prior to working on one of our aircraft as a Flight Nurse or Flight Paramedic. The training program covers topics that include, but are not limited to:

• Aviation Safety
• Human Factors Training
• Crew Resource Management
• Principles of Flight Physiology and Stressors of Transport
• Adult Advanced Airway Management
• Ventilator Management
• Surgical Airway interventions
• Invasive Surgical Skills and Procedures
• Documentation of Patient Care
• Advanced Clinical Assessment Skills
• Critical Care and Emergency Care Principals and Practice
• Advanced Pharmacology Principles and Practice
• Quality Management Processes
• Survival Training
• Toxicology
• Hazmat procedures
• Environmental Emergencies
• Scene Management, Rescue and Extrication procedures
• Scene Safety
