Clinical Education and Training

Omniflight Charleston is committed to operating in a safety-conscious environment as well as achieving clinical excellence within the air medical industry.  To meet these high professional expectations and standards, Omniflight Charleston has implemented and followed an industry-leading orientation and continuing education program.

Clinical applicants may be selected for an interview when they possess a minimum of three years of relevant experience.  The flight crew selection process includes a team interview, an intense interactive scenario based session and comprehensive written examination.  Successful candidates will then participate in a rigorous four-week didactic program specifically tailored to meet the demands of the air medical environment and the needs of critical patients. Upon completion of the initial training, each clinician is paired with a preceptor to assure a smooth transition into the flight environment.  In addition to clinical training, Omniflight Charleston offers new crew members a safety orientation that includes an introduction to basic survival skills, orientation to the aircraft, operations in and out of the aircraft, scene safety, crew resource management and much more. Yearly, all crew members have the opportunity to attend survival day and helo dunker training.

Omniflight Charleston also provides access to continuing and ongoing education.  All clinicians are required to demonstrate proficiency of skills twice a year through simulator training and by participating in a pig lab exercise.  All clinicians are required to maintain current certifications and licensures and are encouraged to be current on clinical updates and research that may impact our practice and profession.
