March 1, 2008
EMS operator Omniflight Helicopters, of Dallas, in January launched a Eurocopter EC 145 in medical configuration to serve the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Omniflight described the aircraft as a virtual airborne trauma center, equipped with mounts for a medical ventilator, an infusion pump for delivering medicines, a balloon pump to assist the heart, a defibrillator and two patient monitors. The
primary patient stretcher is equipped with a rack to allow the monitor, IV bags and infusion pump to travel with the patient. The twin turbine helicopter is IFRequipped, with a NVIS-compatible glass cockpit.
