Omniflight’s employment requirements are based on CAMTS standards.

Flight Crew Requirements

Listed below are the requirements and qualifications necessary to serve on Omniflight’s flight and medical crews as well as those required of our technicians. 

The missions we fly are staffed with a pilot and a registered flight nurse along with a flight paramedic.  They are supported by an aircraft maintenance technician.  These professionals have undergone extensive, relevant industry-related training.  The requirements for employment of these positions within Omniflight include:

Pilots

Rotor-Wing Pilot Minimums*

  • Commercial Rotor Wing with Instrument Rating
  • 2000 Hours Total Time
  • 1500 Hours Helicopter
  • 1000 Hours Rotor Wing Pilot in Command (PIC)
  • 100 Hours Night Unaided
  • 500 Hours of Turbine Time – 1000 hours Turbine Time strongly encouraged

Fixed-Wing Pilot Minimums*

  • Commercial Fixed Wing with Instrument Rating
  • 2000 Hours Total Time
  • 1000 Hours Airplane PIC
  • 500 Hours Multi-engine (Not required of single-engine turbine aircraft)
  • 100 Hours Night as PIC
Flight Nurse
  • RN licensure in State of Employment
  • Minimum Three years Critical Care Experience
  • Current ACLS, PALS/PEPP, NRP
  • Successful completion of an Advanced Trauma Curriculum
  • Completion of extensive Pre-hire competency evaluation using o Human Patient Simulators o Proficiency exams
  • Completion of New Employee Ground School
Flight Paramedic
  • Paramedic Certification in State of Employment
  • Minimum three years experience as a lead paramedic at a “High Volume” Advanced Life Support Transport Service
  • Current ACLS, PALS/PEPP, NRP, NREMPT-P* (Arizona and New Mexico Only)
  • Successful completion of an Advanced Trauma Curriculum
  • Completion of extensive Pre-hire competency evaluation using
    • Human Patient Simulators
    • Proficiency exams
  • Completion of New Employee Ground School
Technician
  • Airframe and Powerplant Certificate
  • Three Years Experience Maintaining Rotor Wing Aircraft
